MINE – Feature film

My directorial debut, MINE is the critically acclaimed documentary about the essential bond between humans and animals, set against the backdrop of one of the worst disasters in modern U.S. history. This gripping, character-driven story follows New Orleans residents as they attempt the daunting task of reuniting with their pets, who have been adopted by families all over the country, and chronicles the custody battles that arise when two families love the same pet. A compelling meditation on race, class, and the power of compassion, MINE examines how we treat animals as an extension of how we view and treat each other.

MINE premiered at the SXSW Film Festival in 2009, winning the Audience Award for Best Feature Documentary. It was later broadcast on PBS’s Independent Lens, where it was voted Audience Favorite for the 2010 season.

Twenty years after Hurricane Katrina, the relevance of MINE continues to grow in the face of an ever-increasing, human-driven global climate crisis. Hurricane Katrina revealed our vulnerability to climate-related disasters, and its lessons continue to offer insight as we are increasingly confronted with a rapidly changing environment.

In 2025, on the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, MINE is being released in its entirety, streaming for free on Vimeo.
